Bishop Verot, Tutor Corps students lead STEM lessons for children attending Guadalupe Center’s summer program

A typical complaint many teenagers have about school is that it’s boring. They just sit there and listen to a teacher lecture from a textbook.

Rather than let the cycle repeat, an enthusiastic group of 12 students from Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers decided to create their own classes, a series of interactive, hands-on activities centered around Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Immokalee children visit 'Ding' Darling refuge

The J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Society recently donated funds to provide transportation to and a day of education today at the refuge for 55 children from the Guadalupe Center in Immokalee. Education intern Emily Schwartz is shown sharing the skeletal parts of local animals with the youth. The group also hiked to the Wildlife Education Boardwalk and enjoyed lunch at the refuge.

Students get shopping spree for college needs

Guadalupe Center supporters Brynne and Bob Coletti donated $250 Target gift cards for the 29 students in this year's program. The students used them to go on a shopping spree this week, so they could pick up the essential items they'll need on campus: towels, bedding, and school supplies.
