Raised as the child of poor, undocumented Immokalee immigrants, Hiram Martinez-Santos joined his father and older brothers picking tomatoes to help the family get by. Since then, he has pulled himself up by his bootstraps and is poised to achieve milestone goals.
Majoring in biochemistry and minoring in Hispanic studies, the senior on a full-ride scholarship at Saint John’s University, in central Minnesota, is set to graduate in May.
