Not long after immigrating to the United States, Lourdes’ mother found herself widowed. As the sole provider, she found the care she needed for Lourdes in the Guadalupe Center After-school Tutoring program. Here, Lourdes received daily academic support from caring teachers and high school tutors who helped her become the confident young lady she is today. This past spring, she was accepted into Tutor Corps.
“The biggest reason I applied to Tutor Corps was because I wanted to pay it forward, I wanted to make the after-school tutoring program fun and enjoyable for the next generation.”
